Our Customers, their aircraft…
A Plane, a travelling partner, a soul

Emmanuel Melet is one of our customers. This 69-year-old retired farmer from Burgundy has dreamed of flying all his life. And it was to fulfill this dream that, in 2016, he passed his pilot’s license at the Cosnes-sur-Loire aeroclub (LFGH). But apart from pure flying, his most ardent wish was to travel and see the Earth from the sky. For this purpose, he flew the aeroclub’s DR400s for a long time, but in 2019, although a trip to the French Brittany region had long been planned, he had to cancel due to an engine problem on the machine he had booked. “From that moment on, I realized I had to have my own plane, to free myself from the constraints of the club,” he recalls.

With a limited budget and on the advice of a friend, he turned his attention to MCRs and went to SE Aviation Aircraft in Pontarlier, where Éric Fumey showed him the MCR-4S F-PDBA, which at the time was part of our second-hand fleet. Emmanuel was hesitant, so Éric offered to rent him the F-PDBA for three months, so that he could evaluate its potential as a travel aircraft. And the pilot was quickly convinced: “I discovered that not only did I no longer have availability constraints, I also no longer had fuel tank constraints!”, he says.

Indeed, with a fuel capacity of 200 liters and a 20-liter/hour consumption rate, this MCR-4S is capable of flying for 10 hours. A real comfort. Three months later, Emmanuel is convinced and becomes the new owner of the F-PDBA. He will offer his new plane a brand new Rotax 914UL turbo, which will be installed by us at SE Aviation Aircraft, and a two-blade MT-Propeller with variable pitch.

In addition, this MCR-4S Evolution is equipped with a 3-axis autopilot, a modern radio, a tablet holder, a Dynon EFIS/GPS, an airframe parachute and, of course, our new flap control system.

The paintwork of the F-PDBA is also worth a closer look, because it is superb. Its fuselage and wings are painted with red “splattered paint” effects, highlighted by a pattern of white crosshatches on a gradient gray background.

Faced with such a design that perfectly combines dynamism, graphics and simplicity, one can only be in awe. This MCR-4S definitely has a beautiful look! Finally, on its fin, a magnificent artist’s drawing represents a gecko, a reptile that symbolizes the “protective breath”, but also wisdom, agility and adaptability.

And Emmanuel is particularly fond of this “protective breath”, because since he got his MCR-4S, he has been traveling with his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and even with his 89-year-old mother to the Alps, the Loire Valley, the Massif Central, the Millau Viaduct or the Garabit Viaduct, for example.

One of their favorite destinations is French Brittany. During these trips, he always takes great pleasure in flying over Chambord Castle, or even passing over Mont Saint-Michel, which he often circles. “We always take the same route, between Mont Saint-Michel and Cap Fréhel. It’s a magnificent flight when you fly along the coast. And with the visibility of the MCR-4S, you feel like a bird!” explains Emmanuel, with a poetic touch in his voice.

Because yes, Emmanuel is also a poet of the sky. Proof of this is the book he wrote for his grandchildren, soberly entitled “Le petit paysan et les oiseaux blancs” (The Little Farmer and the White Birds). The book, which is illustrated with drawings and photos of the F-PDBA, reads like a children’s story and relates the tale of a man of the land who dreams of flying in the sky. In other words, his own story…

Unfortunately, for some time now, due to health concerns, Emmanuel has been unable to fly his “white bird”. But do you think he would sell his plane for all that? No. Never! And, in order to be able to continue flying among the clouds, since September, his wife, Marguerite, has started to get her pilot’s license. The couple will soon be able to resume traveling with their family and friends, and continue to live up to their motto: “Fly, travel, contemplate”.

At SE Aviation Aircraft, when we realize that our aircraft are capable of inspiring so much happiness in people, we too are filled with joy.

So thank you, Marguerite and Emmanuel… and have good flights!

When Emmanuel et Marguerite talk about their MCR-4S…

It’s beautiful! Our plane is beautiful and, what’s more, it allows us to make dreams come true that we would never have imagined. It’s more than just a machine. For us, it’s a companion that accompanies us on every trip. It has a soul! And it allows us to travel fast, far and for a long time, without ever having to worry about anything.
Regarding the people at SE Aviation, they are perfect! They always give good advice and are really responsive. For example, when we had a brake failure, they fixed it for us that same day. Finally, Éric knows the MCRs like the back of his hand. He’s an encyclopedia. Thanks to him and to SE Aviation!

WHAT IS NEW AT SE AVIATION AIRCRAFT?

He’s about to cross the Atlantic with his MCR-4S!

Do you remember Jonathan Hayot? Based in Martinique (French Caribbean) and owner of the MCR-4S F-PAEL, he was the “Customer of the Month” for november 2023.
Jonathan has since sold his plane (which was a little too old for his liking) and bought a new one: an MCR-4S Evolution.

Registered F-PAMV, this one is much more modern: 141 hp Rotax 915iS, 100% carbon wing, airframe parachute, Garmin G3X avionics, new center console, USB ports, three-axis autopilot or even new carbon seats.

But to reach Martinique, the plane that was assembled in France will not travel in a container. No, the 37-year-old pilot will… fly his MCR-4S Evolution ! To do this, and in addition to a full survival kit, Jonathan has had his plane equipped with additional flexible tanks, placed on the rear seats, to increase its flying range to 15 hours.

So, next Saturday, February 22, he will take off from Perpignan (south of France) with a co-pilot and head for Martinique. The two men will make the trip in 5 stages: Perpignan-Agadir / Agadir-Dakkar / Dakkar-Cape Verde / Cape Verde-Cayenne / Cayenne-Fort de France.

You can follow Jonathan Hayot’s adventure on his Instagram account “jococo972” and on the SE Aviation Aircraft Facebook page, where we will publish a short debriefing after each flight.
