Our Customers, their aircraft…
Rudolf and his MCR-4S

Rudolf Haimburger is one of our customers. An Austrian based at the Friesach-Hirt (LOKH) aerodrome, a few kilometres from the town of Klagenfurt, he has logged a total of 2,700 flight hours since 1994, the year he took his ultralight licence. He soon became the owner of a Flash, on which he learned to fly, and then, a few years later, a Tecnam, with which he travelled to bordering countries such as Italy. However, Rudolf would like to travel even further and share his passion for flying with more friends. That’s why he passed his PPL in 2005.

At the same time, he discovered the MCR-4S… and it was love at first sight! He was so impressed by the aircraft’s performance that, some time later, he co-purchased one, the F-PHAC, with two other pilots and, in 2007, became its only owner.
This marked the start of a long and exciting adventure with his MCR-4S, punctuated by numerous flights across Europe to countries such as Italy, Romania, Switzerland, France and Germany.

The North Cape by MCR
In 2019, with his MCR-4S, he will be taking part in a rather exceptional adventure: with a group of friends in 10 planes, he reached the highest point in Europe: the North Cape, in Norway. It’s a week-long trip, during which the navigation will have been particularly well organised thanks to a highly competent leader. Among other things, the planes flew over some of Europe’s most beautiful mountains and forests and, of course, the most beautiful Norwegian fjords, such as those on the Lofoten Islands.

Rudolf will be returning to Austria with a wealth of memories and images, after an extra week’s flying. With the MCR-4S’s range, it could have been quicker, but the pilot confesses that humans have less endurance than that aircraft… And then, aren’t beautiful stopovers part of the pleasure of the travel?

From the MCR-4S to 4S Evolution
Convinced that the MCR-4S was the best aircraft for travelling, Rudolf decided to put his aircraft up for sale and buy… another MCR-4S! But it won’t be just any one, as it will be the very latest generation of our MCR-4S Evolution.

So, in 2024, we had the pleasure of delivering him the F-PHAA which, as well as being powered by a 141 hp Rotax 915, features most of the options and latest upgrades designed by SE Aviation Aircraft: new flap control system, new centre console, Garmin G3X, Air Avionics AT-1, Garmin GTR-225 radio, GTX-335 transponder, and a ventilated slot on the instrument panel for his iPad.

The F-PHAA is also equipped with a 3-axis autopilot, numerous USB ports, an airframe parachute (with straps now embedded in the fuselage), new carbon seats covered in a beautiful blue alcantara, and even an on-board oxygen system to make high-altitude navigation safer. In short, an MCR-4S Evolution that is so complete and representative of SE Aviation Aircraft’s work over the years that it was exhibited on our stand at AERO Friedrichshafen 2024!

Delivered at the end of the show, Rudolf has only flown around forty hours on board, his longest flight so far being “only” 3 hours. He has, however, announced that he is preparing to make many voyages, further and further afield, to ever more exotic destinations. We can’t wait to see the photos this pilot-traveller will bring back.

Enjoy the flight … and long live your superb MCR-4S Evolution!

When Rudolf talks about his MCR-4S Evolution…

With its 420 kg payload, it’s very easy to travel with four people and luggage. The autopilot is a real convenience for long voyages. The engine is very reliable and the range of the aircraft is huge: to run out of fuel, you’d really have to do it on purpose. Thanks to its carbon construction, the aircraft is very solid and you don’t have to worry too much about structure maintenance problems. Finally, taking off or landing on short grass runways is child’s play. In other words, I’m not about to change my plane!

WHAT IS NEW AT SE AVIATION AIRCRAFT?

Three Pick-Up Evolution in the short final…

SE AVIATION AIRCRAFT has been busy this month! No fewer than three MCR Pick-Up Evolutions are in the final assembly stage, and if all goes to plan, the first should be completed next week and begin its test flights.

As a reminder, the MCR Pick-Up Evolution is the ultralight version based on the MCR-4S architecture, where the rear seats become a space dedicated to luggage, giving it a very high carrying capacity in terms of volume.

With a 600 kg MTOW and 100 hp Rotax 912ULS, this ULM cruises at 247 km/h (TAS at FL65) and has a theoretical range of 2,690 km. All in all, one of the best-performing multi-axis ultralights on the market, and certainly the most competitive in terms of budget.
